Is It Time For A Bicycle Tune Up?

All bicycles need attention at some time whether you use it regularly or not. If you do not use it, it probably needs more attention than if you do, but if you do use your bicycle much some aspects will need attention as well. The first thing to test is the chain. If the chain is not correct, it will not convey all your leg power to the wheels – it will be inefficient and you will have to work harder. So, test the tension of the chain by moving it up and down from its normal place. It ought to move about a centimeter (less than half an inch) up and down from regular. If so, tighten the locking nut, oil the bearings or replace them.

Check your brake handles and cables. Replace anything that is cracked, fractured or showing signs of rust. Check your brake pads. If they are worn out of shape, replace them and fit new ones so that they will wear more uniformly.

If the pads are misshapen then they were not fitted in the correct manner so your brakes were not working well for a while which means that you were lucky that you did not need them in an emergency situation.

When the brake pads have been fitted properly, recheck the tension of the cables operating them. Tighten or slacken them as needed.

If you are still growing, check the height of the saddle and raise it if necessary. If you have stopped growing upwards, check that the saddle nut is tight enough to hold the saddle in position even if you hit a pothole.

Last but not least, make certain that your lights and reflector are working.

Raccoons And Their Scavenger Habits

The furry little animal with the noticeable black bandit mask is called the raccoon. They have a ring tail which is fluffy and has four to six rings on it. Their fur is a grayish brown with black markings, and is soft and luxurious.

They grow to be about 2.5 feet long and weigh roughly 12-16 pounds but can grow up to 30 pounds. Most raccoons live to be around 5 to 6 years of age but some have been known to live for 15 years.

Raccoons walk a lot like humans and bears walk, which is called the heel to toe style. They are native to North and South America. The raccoons? track are similar to a small human hand.

The Algonquin word, ?arakun?, means ?one who scratches with his hands?. This is where the raccoon got its name. They are also known as ?coons?.

Kits, which are baby raccoons, are born around two months after the parents mate. Usually the mother will have 1-6 kits. The kits will remain in a high tree hole and will then move to lower ground where they will begin to learn how to hunt and explore. Raccoons are known to live in fissures in rocks, burrows, hollow trees, and caves. You will normally find water close at hand.

Raccoons will consume just about anything, including frogs, mice, insects, berries, crayfish, fresh water mussels, birds? eggs, and crops grown in human gardens. A waste can is a spot that a raccoon loves to explore to find food. They have long fingers which allow them to open such items as doors and waste bins.

A raccoon?s presence in a garden can be noticed if corn stalks are pushed down. They will stand against a corn stalk to knock it down and then eat the ears when the stalk is lying on the ground. It is not unusual for a raccoon to wash its food before eating it.

If a raccoon is cornered it often tries to escape by finding a tree or turning to bay in water where they are known to drown predators. Their foremost predators are humans or dogs. The raccoon is hunted primarily at night. Their pelts are valued to make sumptuous coats, hats, and mittens. Their meat is also valued by some individuals.

Raccoons are very social animals, which leaves them prone to communicable diseases such as distemper and rabies, the later of which may be transmitted to humans. If a raccoon is seen acting strangely, particularly in day light hours, they should not be approached because this is frequently a sign that something is not right with the animal.

Pesky raccoons can be caught in no-kill, cage traps and transported to other areas. But be careful, the same trap that will catch a raccoon will also catch a skunk. The best way to keep raccoons away is to make sure there is no food lying about to attract them, this includes dog and cat food.

A raccoon can be a decent pet but they do need a lot of time and patience. One ought to always remember that they are wild animals and one should be wary at all times.

What Is Formula Drifting?

Unless you are a aficionado of racing cars, there is a good chance that you have not heard of Formula D Racing. Formula D has its adherents naturally, yet it is still not as commonly known as the other kinds of racing like Formula One, Drag Car Racing, NASCAR or Cross Country Rallying. This is partly because it is a pretty new form of car racing.

Each year the national television coverage is a bit more widespread, but it is taking a long time to prise some of the airtime away from the more traditional sports. Once you have seen a competition though, the chance is that you will become hooked on this exhilarating sport that they have Christened Formula D.

The ‘D’ in Formula D stands for ‘drifting’ which is another name given to the sport. Drifting refers to the angle of the car with reference to the sides of the road at any given moment. Drifting through bends allows the car to maintain its highest possible speed in a bend. Drifting sounds natural and therefore commonplace, yet it is actually very hard to do well.

Drifting takes skill and plenty of practice. Drivers are judged partially on their talent at drifting. There are in fact two aspects of Formula D or two types of drifting. There are the traditional style qualifying runs and there are also tandem battles. Qualifying runs involve the driver racing solo flat out against the clock, drifting as necessary to maintain the highest speed they can.

However, tandem runs involve two car drivers who are being judged on their skills at outwitting the other driver. The judges are looking for the line of drift, the speed of the cars, overtaking, collisions and much more. Driving in the tandem runs really sorts the men out from the boys.

Formula Drifting grew up a little haphazardly, but there have been serious attempts to regulate it. At the moment the Formula Drift Championship is the only professional drifting championship that is sanctioned by SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Pro Racing in the United States, although there are frequently amateur local drifting competitions held unofficially.

There has to be more officially sanctioned races so that standards are maintained and each driver follows the same set of regulations. This is the only way that the television channels will pick up on drifting and help advertise it more. Drifting is new to the United States, but the first Drifting Races took place in 2004, so not all that long ago anyway. It is still very much a modern sport.

Do not be worried about going over your initial lines in order to draw the shapes more realistic. When you start, your car may look as if it is emerging from a fog, but the next time you draw a car, the lines will be better and more truthful from the start.

The foremost thing is not to become worried about making mistakes yet merely listen to critics who have tried drawing themselves.

The best idea would probably be if a grown up were to be busy with his or her wood working project and the child or children were hard at it with theirs at the same time in the same room. In this way, the child could be helped with and taught about potentially dangerous machinery and tools. They could be helped and taught at the same time.

What is an suitable age to begin? Well, many schools begin teaching woodwork at about 12 years of age, but you know how grown-up your child is better than anyone. The Wonders Of Hot Tubs And Whirlpool Spas

It is lovely to soak in a hot tub, is it not? After a long day at work or sorting the family out – driving the kids to and from school and then to the scouts, sports club or music lessons. Being held up in traffic on the way home or waiting in the queue at the supermarket, a long soak in a hot tub washes it all away.

Imagine then what a hot tub spa or Jacuzzi could do? Sitting in a hot spa tub with a long cool drink whilst half a dozen jets are blasting hot water and bubbles at you, massaging you gently, taking the stresses of the day away.

You could place one in the garden or in the bathroom. You could even buy a portable hot spa tub and move it into the garden in the summer and back inside in the winter. If you ask most individuals what they want to have in the way of home improvement, a swimming pool would probably be number one and a Jacuzzi number two.

It warms you right through, through to the marrow and that relieves minor aches and pains. The reduction in gravity is also said to be a relief to sufferers of arthritis.

There are possibly other reasons too why people feel more relaxed in a tub of hot water, particularly a whirlpool kind spa tub, but one for me is that I will not get out of the tub for anything with the exception of to get another drink. Once I am in there, I do not care if the phone rings or the door bell chimes. The house would have to be on fire to get be me out before my skin looks like a wrinkled old prune.
