Reasons For Failing At Affiliate Marketing

This article is about the reasons for failing at Internet marketing. There are many reasons why people are unsuccessful at Internet marketing and anything else for that matter. Most people who write on this subject will say that the first reason is lack of hard work, the second is lack of creativity and the third is lack of focus and I agree that these are the three main reasons for failure, but I want to look at some of the other reasons for failing at Internet marketing

Lack of valuable content is one of these reasons for failing at Internet marketing. Too many inexpert Internet marketers focus on earning money and they believe that they can best achieve this by firing a shotgun of web site banners at their visitors.

The secret here is so clear that nobody is trying to keep it, but, visitors to your website have not come to admire your banners. They have come to be educated, to be amused or to solve a problem they have. And they want it gratis, so your banners are the last thing on their minds when they arrive. Particularly if they off subject. You need articles that are relevant to the content of your site.

The more pertinent articles the better. The best kind are absolutely original and unique to your website, however, some marketers cannot write well and others cannot pay to have them written for them. These people can get articles free of charge from article databases (simply Google it).

The main difficulty about this is that you will have to keep the resource box at the end of the article on your web site. This will cause some of your visitors to leak away, but definitely not all.

I have several such sites and they are doing all right. A website of other writers’ content is very easy to make, so you could have a website up in a day, if you want to swiftly create a website around a merchant’s special offer that does not fit into your existing websites. This can be very useful, especially if you want to build up a portfolio of say, 150-200 websites.

The trick here is to get your visitor to click on your ONE high-paying advert rather than leak out by clicking the link at the foot of the article. You can do this by putting the advert in the right place and prominent. The articles should concentrate on the keywords of the product you are promoting.

Those wishing to be successful Internet marketers must be prepared to keep acquiring knowledge. The Internet changes rapidly and new techniques and media are being brought out every month. Twitter has only been around for four years and it just passed its 16 billionth tweet. How long have you known about Twitter?

Have you learned how to harness it for marketing yet? Even if Twitter does not appeal to your object audience, you should have learned what is has to provide by now, so that you can make an informed decision.

Maybe, one day you will find a product to market where Twitter can be of assistance. Keep learning and be ready. This all boils down to hard work, because there is always someone claiming to have invented the next Myspace or Twitter.

While you are taking a rest from checking up on your next product or project, or the next social medium, you ought to improve your knowledge of programming or editing so that you can make improvements and alterations to your web site yourself in order to keep it looking new.

Keyword Selection And SEO

Keyword selection and search engine optimization are vital tools in creating and running a successful website. Before we continue talking about keyword selection and search engine optimization, I want to be sure that we all understand what the terminology means.

Keywords are the words selected by you to define your site. They are the words that you hope to rank well for in Google. So, for instance, if you want to have a web site selling ‘fashion’ – ‘fashion, fashionable, high fashion, haute couture’ may become your keywords (more on this later).

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is concerned with presenting your work – the web site and any text associated with it – in such a manner that search engines find it easy to crawl and index, which enables surfers to find you on the Internet.

Let’s use Google as an example of a search engine – after all, it is the largest, most used and so most important. Google wants to supply its users with the best results – that is, most relevant results – that it can for every keyword entered, in order to improve customer satisfaction.

Therefore it has built up an enormous database of which keywords appear on which sites. Then ‘all’ has to do is rank the sites by popularity and, in theory, the most relevant websites should pop up for every keyword typed in.

Now there is you, or me, with our dreams of a web site on fashion. If you make ‘fashion’ your keyword, you will be taking on the colossal fashion houses and huge department stores with their colossal budgets and gigantic websites head to head. Who do you imagine is going to win?

It is a no-brainer. You will never even get to page 20 in Google search results. In short, you will have no business. But what if you used a long-tail keyword (LTKW) and focused your web site? Say, use the LTKW ‘fashionable plus size black dresses’ and construct a website around that. It may be a keyword that no one else has considered.

This is why keyword selection is important and there are numerous books and articles written about it. It is a precise job, a bit of a slog, but some individuals, like me, actually enjoy it. Or you could automate the task.

So, that is the first stage: finding relevant keywords to your business so that you have a chance of being listed on the first page of Google for that keyword. The second stage is constructing your website search engine friendly so that Google can crawl it and index it for your keywords.

If you do not do this properly, Google’s spiders will crawl off onto another web site and it may be a while before they come back, which leaves your website in still water.

This article is too short to go into this colossal subject in any worthwhile way, but I will strive to give you the most relevant pointers.

Keep your web site focused on a small range of products and define and use keywords for every item, but do not over use them. Do not repeat a keyword phrase simply for the sake of it.

Make your internal links easy to find by using nav bars, menus and sitemaps.

Do not have loads of external links for your visitors to go off to, make your site interesting enough for surfers and spiders to want to remain there.

Can Sitemaps Really Give Websites A Boost?

If you want to sell anything on line or even only make money from Adsense, you will have to ensure that your website is in the top five or six websites listed in a search using the keywords that you are specializing in.

For instance, if your web site is concerned with dog carts, you will try to be in the top six websites of the search results if anyone keys ‘dog carts’ into Google.

The means of attaining this objective includes SEO (search engine optimization) techniques. There are many of these, in fact, there are hundreds or even thousands of books on the issue, so in this short article, I only would like to look at one method that a lot of newbies overlook.

Sitemaps. Do you use sitemaps to help advertise your web site? If you are not then you are probably not making much money on line. At a very rough guess, I should think that well over 75% of websites are not using sitemaps at all and half of the remainder are not using sitemaps to their full capability.

Let’s just talk of Google here, because it is the most used search engine by far and most of the others operate in the same way anyway. Google employs robots, ‘bots or spiders to go out onto the web and track links automatically.

So, a spider (robots, bots and spiders are only different names for the same thing) goes out onto the Internet and hits a website. It crawls that web site until it hits a link and then it records the link with Google and follows it. If that link is to another page on your web site it stays on your website. If, however the link is to an external page (web site), it will go over there.

Now, as a website owner, you want your website crawled as soon and as thoroughly as possible, so that when someone searches on your keywords, Google knows that you have a relevant website. If the spiders keep wandering off your site to go somewhere else, they will have to come back very, very frequently to crawl all your site.

This is bad news. You want to hold a spider, once you have been lucky enough to catch one, for as long as you can. Think of money spiders, because that is what they are.

So, in order to keep the spider crawling around your website, give it links to follow. I give my arachnoid visitors at least two sitemaps to follow and no external links, unless it is to another of my own websites.

I draw up an alphabetical sitemap and a sitemap based on the nav bar and then I submit my site to Google Analytics so that Google sends a spider straight to my site, which means that I do not have to wait for a money spider to happen upon my website.

Always, always put a sitemap on your nav bar. It is not there for human visitors, it is there for the spiders to crawl down through making sure that your site is indexed more quickly.

SEO Copywriting Services

SEO copywriting services are provided by companies or people who will either compose articles to order or will permit you, for a fee, to re-use and rewrite articles that they have written previously. Some of these companies are excellent, but most of them are worse than bad.

Some of the pieces that these companies sell are so bad that it would have been easier to write the articles from fresh rather than rewrite the gibberish that they sell.

The difficulty when you are searching for SEO copywriting services is that most people who require these services are working alone and often those who do know a good firm offering SEO copywriting services would prefer to keep the information to themselves.

Asking in a forum is practically useless, because there are too numerous members who do not know but have to say something and there are others who would not know a decent piece if they read one.

Therefore, the best advice is to be vary wary before you listen to advice and be very, very wary before you part with any money. There are different levels that these businesses work on, so it also depends what you need.

Do you need a firm to provide SEO copywriting services in toto – that is, do you want them to write the pieces and advertise your company for you or do you want to purchase pieces from them and promote your own website yourself?

The first choice is costly, but there are two degrees of the second option: first, if you purchase original pieces, you will have the same problems mentioned above, but if you buy PLR pieces (private label rights), you ought to rewrite them a little anyway in order to render them unique. This is an simple and far less costly quest.

Let’s begin with the top end of the market. if you would like someone to take over marketing your company on the Net, then you need to be certain that that firm understands the business that you are in. For instance, would a firm that has had success promoting a garden centre be able to promote a butcher’s?

Therefore, you need to see examples of the businesses that they have run successful campaigns for in the past and you ought to look at their web site and even contact the firm to see if there were any worries. A bona fide SEO copywriting services firm will be glad to show you these details, because they will be proud of their repute.

If you only need someone to write original articles for you, you can afford to be a lot less curious. All you require to know in this example is the details of the guarantee. If there is no warranty that you will like the pieces, then go elsewhere.

If you are prepared to do a little rewriting of the articles that you have bought, you can render them your own. This is the path that most webmasters using SEO copywriting services take to add content to their web sites or use as articles to promote them.

Excellent online freegames

Should you be looking for amusement, then good online games should be among your first opportunities. Free games deliver the advantage that they can be discovered online at no charge. All you need for this are a PC having a browser as well as the Flash plugin.

However what makes a excellent free online games? What makes a fantastic online game differ from a poor game?

Whether somebody likes an online game or not is, of couse, a matter of taste. But an important factor is definitely, that good online games should be free. Most Flashgames can actually be play completely free of charge. These games finance themselves via advertisements, which are usually displayed on their websites. This is a good thing, becauce it keeps the online games free for you. Or would your rather spend large amounts of money for a few minutes of fun?

One more fundamental issue for a good online game is definitely an entry that needs to be as simple as achievable. No person would rather go through a lengthy and boring manual or play through couple of hours of courses before enjoying a round of an entertaining online game. Good online games need to be explaining themselves by playing.

Good online games ought to have an addicting game principle. Who wants to play the two hundredth remake of an medieval video game without having interesting twist? Good online games will need to enchant their players right away!

However free games must also motivate the players for a longer time than 5 minutes. There are quite a few free internet games over the internet that include amusement which could continue for several hours. In particular role playing games or upgrade games offer you outstanding replayability, and retain players on the screens for hours. So get your computer ready and start off playing.

SEO And How To Get More Backlinks Part Two

Look at the subject matter of your website. is it relevant or is it ostentatious? Does the content set out to help and inform your visitors or does it set out to prove how clever a graphic designer you are? Most search engines cannot actually read graphics, but they can all interpret text.

Also, do not forget that just because you have high-speed broadband, not everyone else does. Some of your prospective customers might only stop, if they have to wait ten minutes for one of your pages to download at 56 Kbps or even 28 Kbps dial up.

Every page ought to have between 500-1,000 words of relevant, unrepeated content. Keep in mind as well that the text must be in standard text (or HTML), but definitely NOT embedded in graphics or the search engines will not be able to read it and categorize your web site.

Without spamming the search engines by repeating yourself too often, look for legitimate methods to repeat your keywords. How? you might ask. Well, one way is to have several menus or navigation bars. You could have one in the left or right hand margin and one either in the info bar (between the header and the body) or the page footer. That gives you two, but if your pages are long, you could have three: top, side and bottom.

Another way of putting a limited menu on the site is to have a ‘locater’ or a ‘You are here :’ line. You could also add a sitemap to your menus. You can also put a copyright notice in the page footer with an active link back to your home page. These methods give you four of five internal legitimate links on your site for which no search engine should penalize you.

Back to getting more backlinks, because getting more backlinks ought to always be your first priority. Compose pieces for every of your web pages with deep links directly to the page for which they were written. If you are allowed two links, one goes to your home page and one goes to the page within your web site that you wrote the piece to advertise.

I personally have discovered that three articles per web page usually does the trick, but it can take more. You ought to join some relevant blogs and forums and take part, leaving just worthwhile, helpful comments, but make sure that your backlink is in your sigfile (signature file).

This technique can produce hundreds of relevant unreciprocated backlinks, but be careful to keep it low profile and relevant or the webmaster might delete your comments or even your account, wasting your work of weeks or even months.

Make a sigfile for your emails as well. This does not supply real backlinks that a search engine will read, but it will produce random traffic to your website, particularly if your sigfile is attached to a good joke or a topical report.

Try to be innovative and work on getting backlinks on relevant websites. As you go up the search engine rankings, people will email you asking to exchange links. Do not do this, no matter what how they put their case. A link out of your site is like having a hole in your bucket; you should be plugging the holes in your bucket, not making new ones.

SEO And How To Get More Backlinks Part One

If you are at all interested in earning money on line, then you ought to be concentrating a lot of your effort on SEO and getting more backlinks. SEO is ’search engine optimization’, but for those who are not sure what backlinks are, here is an explanation.

Backlinks are links from other websites back to your website. Google and other search engines use the number of backlinks it can find to a website to judge how well-liked (and therefore how decent or and helpful) it is. The most well-liked web sites drift to the top of the search engine rankings.

However, there are two kinds of backlinks: reciprocated and unreciprocated backlinks. Reciprocated backlinks are those where Google finds a link from your website back to the other website, which it perceives as a one for one swap.

These links are deemed to be of less worth. Unreciprocated backlinks are perceived to be of high value because, Google reasons, you must be so good that webmasters will link to you for nothing.

I am sure that you appreciate that it is very useful to get to the front page of Google’s search results for the keyword phrase that you want to rank for, but perhaps you do not realize quite how important it is.

On average, more than 85% of surfers arrive at the web site that they would like by looking for it on a search engine and most people use Google. Not only that, but most people do not look further than the first page of results and most of those do not even scroll down to check the others that they cannot see on the first page (below the fold).

It could be that the numbers 1-5 in the search results have 10 times more clicks than the numbers 6-10 (assuming 10 results per page) and 100 times more than anybody on page two. After page two, you can forget it to be honest.

Not just will your web site receive more clicks up on the top of the search results, but the people who click through to your site will be looking for what you have to sell, which means more targeted visitors. If the product sells, the top three do extremely well indeed.

I will return to getting more backlinks later, because there are a couple other little tweaks that you can check on to improve your search engine ranking (SEO). Firstly, make sure that the title of your website is relevant to what you are using the site for.

For instance, if you are selling T-shirts, it is better to call the site “Mike’s T-shirts” than “Mike’s Clothing”. There are other ways of linking websites, if you decide later to sell collared shirts or jumpers. Remain focused. Start earning money by selling T-shirts and then move on.

If you have a number of pages, make sure that the titles of every page are relevant too. Check the source code for each page as well and make sure that the META tags are relevant: that is, put at least six keywords in the keyword meta tag and put a relevant description in the description meta tag – again keep them focused but do not repeat a keyword more than three times per page.

Technological Singularity- Who Is Smarter: You Or Your Computer?

A science fiction novel I once read from a while back described a group of scientists who put together a supercomputer that was more intelligent than human beings. A scientist could type a question into the supercomputer, which would instantaneously answer with an accurate answer. One night, a scientist was working late in the lab alone. He typed the question “Is there a god?” into the supercomputer. Without hesitation, the supercomputer gave its disturbing reply: “There wasn’t a god, but there is one now.”

There is no denying that computers have come a long way from back in the day when one computer could easily take up the space of a whole room. Almost everyone has one, whether it be a laptop or a smart phone. They are so common, in fact, that even though you did not have access to the Internet just a relatively short time ago, you most likely take it for granted today. But will a computer ever be as intelligent, or even smarter than a human being?

It seems far fetched to think about. The human brain is so complicated and amazing. Just think about the hundreds of thousands of things it is doing right now. Quick!! Think about your foot. I bet before I mentioned your foot, you were not consciously thinking about it. But your brain was completely aware of your foot, and everything that was going on with it. But the brain is in fact so amazing that it does not need to bother you with all of its minute details. Only if you were to hurt your foot would the shooting pain would suddenly be very noticeable.

Now focus on the idea of a chair. How do you define a chair anyway? Something you sit on? Something with four legs and a seat? Technically then, couldn’t a table fit the definition of a chair? But that’s a table, not a chair, right? And don’t chairs come in all shapes and sizes, like bean bag chairs or those crazy ergonomic chairs? So when you see a chair, how does your brain recognize that you are looking at a chair? It utilizes something called top down processing. A computer could not do that. To program a computer to be able to recognize a chair, you’d have to plug in every possible definition of a chair into the thing, while your brain can do the work in half a second.

But think again. Computers can beat chess experts pretty easily nowadays. That is because in this case, the computer can utilize top down processing, while a human chess expert can only recognize simple patterns in the game. When you compete with a computer at chess, it enters the game with an entire tree of knowledge of every move that could be made, and every counter move. We like to think we are superior to computers, yet we have programmed computers to be able to recognize most of human speech. Think about how long it takes to teach a human baby to learn to talk, and all the work it entails. Now compare that with the amount of time it takes a computer to download some speech recognition software off of another computer. How Would Human Beings Design A Computer That Could Outsmart Them?

In the last article of this series I spoke about technological singularity, which is a theory that technology will eventually advance so quickly that the future will be unimaginably different than it is today. I wrote about the fact that it is very possible that in the distant (or not so distant) future, a computer may be built that could outsmart a human being! So if the singularity may be looming in the future, how would humans get over that initial first hurdle of building a computer that is smarter than humanity? Theorists reason there are two ways: amplifying the intelligence of human brains until we are intelligent enough to come up with this computer, and artificial intelligence.

Taking a human brain and expanding its intelligence seems like it might be a long way off in the future, but there are many ways that scientists can do this even today. After all, in laboratories, it is fairly easy for scientists to genetically modify mice. Granted, they are just mice, but genetic modification of the human brain could be an option for the future. Then there are nootropic drugs, which are drugs, supplements and foods that have the capacity to improve mental functions. Refer to the field of psychopharmaceuticals if you don’t believe me that these exist.

Direct brain-computer interfaces exist, which are basically direct communication pathways between a brain and an external device. Monkeys have been able to control robotic arms simply by using their brains! One final example is mind uploading, which scientists are exploring now. This is the process of scanning a biological brain in detail and copying its state into a computer system. If this ever came about this would mean immortality for anyone who wanted to have their minds uploaded. Their consciousness would remain in the realm of the internet long after their biological bodies have died.

Then we return to the notion of artificial intelligence, in which smarter and smarter computers keep on being designed by humans until we have a computer that is smart enough to design another computer that is smarter than itself. Theoretically, every computer that is smarter will design an even smarter computer, until they have outsmarted human beings.

Either way, it seems as though we are approaching the point of a very intelligent, self programming computer soon. Currently, there are a number of computers who are responsible for making very important decisions regarding the human race. The United States Navy lets us know that as military robots become more complex, we should give more attention to the ramifications of their capacity to make autonomous decisions. Military robots potentially hold the lives of other people in their hands, and yes, they do make their “own” decisions. Many people feel that the leaps and bounds that we are already making with Artificial Intelligence should include an effort to make AI friendly and humane. It is definitely worth considering! To be continued in the next article, “What Happens After Humans Design A Computer That Can Outsmart Them?

Can Humans Keep Up With Computers? Technological Singularity

In layman’s terms, technological singularity is a theory that technology will accelerate at an unbelievably fast pace, so fast that the future will be unpredictable, unimaginable, and completely different than the way things are today. Of course there is much more to it, but this set of articles is just an introduction.

In his book “The Singularity is Near,” Ray Kurzweil argues that technological progress follows a pattern of exponential growth. That means that technological growth is multiplied, rather than just added. In a nutshell, exponential growth means that progress starts out slowly, then slowly gets faster. The progress gets multiplied by further progress, which hurls advancement into an extremely fast pace. The more time that goes by, the faster things change.

History teaches us a crucial lesson about exponential growth. The economy roughly doubled every 250,000 years from the Paleolithic era until the Neolithic Revolution after kind type of technological innovation. After this, agricultural economy began to double every 900 years. In today’s era, after the technology that came with the Industrial Revolution, the world’s economic output doubles every fifteen years.

That’s a remarkable increase! If you just think about it for a minute, it’s hard not to agree with exponential growth. Think about how much technology accelerates in a year today, and compare that to how much technology accelerated in any year in the 1950’s.

Yet although technology seems to be getting faster and faster, humans can’t seem to keep up. After all, although the human brain has evolved, it has not changed in any significant way for millennia. Bearing in mind the increasing power of technologies and computers, it no longer seems so far fetched that a machine could be built that is more intelligent than human beings. In theory, if it were possible for humans to build a machine that had better problem solving skills than humans, and was more intelligent, then this machine could take it upon itself to design an even smarter machine. Then if this smarter machine was built, it could design a machine even smarter than itself, and so forth and so on.
